The fee increases will affect applications for temporary residents looking to extend their status or gain entry into the country, including:
Applications for restoring temporary resident status (for visitors, workers, and students)
Applications for authorization to return to Canada
Applications for criminal rehabilitation (including for serious criminal offenses)
Applications for Temporary Resident Permits (TRPs)
While the updated fees have not yet been released, the current fees are as follows:
Restoration of Visitor Status: $229.00 CAD
Restoration of Student Status: $379.00 CAD
Restoration of Worker Status: $384.00 CAD
Authorization to Return to Canada: $459.55 CAD
Inadmissibility Due to Criminality: $229.77 CAD
Inadmissibility Due to Serious Criminality: $1,148.87 CAD
Temporary Resident Permit (TRP): $229.77 CAD
What Happens if You Paid the Previous Fees?
If you’ve already submitted an application with the old fee, you generally won’t need to take further action, as long as your application is complete.
For online submissions: Once submitted, your application is immediately processed, confirming the fee has been received.
For paper submissions: There may be a delay between when you send your documents and when IRCC receives them. If the fee increase occurs during this time, your application should still be accepted as long as you:
Paid the full old fee
Submitted a complete application
Mailed the documents before the fee increase
If the fee increase applies to your application, IRCC will provide instructions on how to pay the difference.
How to Pay the Difference After a Fee Increase
For applicants who submit paper applications before the fee change, here's how to handle the fee difference:
Calculate the Difference: Determine the difference between the old and new fees, including any changes for family members.
Make the Payment: Go to IRCC’s online payment system under Make an Additional Payment or Pay Other Fees. Enter the total fee difference (new fee minus old fee). Payments can be made in a single or multiple transactions.
Obtain a Receipt: After completing the payment, you will receive a receipt.
Submit the Receipt: Follow the instructions provided by IRCC to submit your receipt.
